How do vacuum capping machines work?

There are a variety of ways to preserve food, including salting, drying, and canning. However, one of the most popular and effective methods to preserve food is using a vacuum capping machine. One of the best ways to give products a long shelf life is with an in-line capping machine that uses steam.

When capping occurs, the air is displaced by steam that is injected into the container before it is sealed (via in-line capping). The vacuum inside the container prevents anything from getting into the container, which could cause the contents to spoil.

There are 4 main steps to in-line capping:

  1. The operator sets up the capping parameters (for example, the cap diameter and jar diameter).
  2. The filled containers on the conveyor belt travel through the steam fed in-line capping machine.
  3. The steam injection displaces the atmospheric air as the cap engages the jar and seals.
  4. The rapid condensing of the steam within the sealed jar will pull the vacuum..

Vacuum capping is quick, easy, and effective with the right in-line steam fed capping machine.

How do metal caps work?

Metal is one of the most common materials used for caps designed for in-line capping machines. Metal is popular because it is resistant to impacts and blows, can withstand extreme temperatures and pressures, and can be easily moulded into a variety of shapes and formats.

Metal caps can have a button on top of them. When the button is in the down position  the container has a vacuum. There’s no oxygen in the container with a vacuum, which helps prevent unwanted growth (such as mould) from occurring in the sealed container.

How does vacuum sealing help preserve food?

Have you ever wondered why vacuum sealing is such a popular way to preserve food? It’s because it works so well to quickly and easily increase the shelf life of products.

The primary purpose of vacuum sealing is to remove air from a container (such as a jar or bottle) containing the food or drink item that you want to increase the shelf life of. When the air is removed, you now have an air-tight vacuum seal.

The reason that it’s essential to remove all the oxygen from a food or drink container is because it prevents bacteria and microorganisms such as mould or fungus from growing in the container. Mould and fungus don’t just ruin how food looks or tastes; they can also make consumers seriously ill. This is why it’s so important to have an effective vacuum seal using an in-line capping machine.

There are other benefits to vacuum-sealed products as well:

  • It helps keep food and drinks protected from dirt and other environmental contaminants.
  • It helps preserve the taste of the food.
